Sample Essay

For Shakespeare’s side of the story, facts were derived from the chronicle by Sir Thomas. Like all literary works written by Shakespeare, this too was based on historical facts founded on materials drawn from recent English history characteristic of the medieval era (Ribner 3).

The historical line for this work is mostly from the 14th century during the 1st and 2nd tetralogy and therefore has strong Tudor Orthodoxy resemblance (Chernaik 11). There are no differences between Shakespeare’s play and Sir Thomas’ or with literary works of this era. This is because both Thomas and Shakespeare dramatized the story giving Richard III’s story a specific genre characteristic of the medieval era. Thomas’ chronicle and Shakespeare’s play are both medieval satiric and morality dramas based on real people and events.
