One exception to the general scarcity of democracy in human history is the classical Greek democracy. In the 5th century BC, a great political change occurred in the city-states of Greece. Introduction
The history of the Chinese in Canada parallels in essential ways the history of other Asian ethnic groups in the western provinces and states of Canada and the United States. Like Japanese, Sikhs and Pacific Island immigrants, Chinese immigrants have come to the New World to earn money in heavy labor (including building the railroads); also as with these other groups Chinese immigrants met with discrimination and cries of “Yellow Peril” – the belief that some nativist Canadians have that the country’s resources should be reserved for whites, with other peoples being asked (or forced) to “go home”. It is not so much that we do not realize that history is important but that we fail to consider how it is important on the scale of every day as well as the grand. We connect history with kings and queens, with armies and victories and defeats, and forget that it is at least as much about how people dressed and what they ate and how they went about the endless task of making money.
