“A Good Man is Hard to Find” is written by Mary Flannery O’Connor’s. Flannery O’Connor uses a range of narrative techniques to form a captivating story. O’Connor writes from a third person narrator and tells the tale from the standpoint of the Grandmother. It is steady with the view that modern society was considerably varying for the worse.

The story begins with the archetypal nuclear family being challenged by the grandmother who doesn’t want to take the vacation to Florida. She has read about a demented killer by the name of the Misfit who is on the run heading for Florida. Unfortunately, she is ignored by every member of the family except for the little girl, June Star, who can read the grandmother like an open book. “A Good Man is Hard to Find,” engross the grandmother’s strong, southern heritage. She dresses with the intent that anyone who finds her dead on the road will recognize she was a lady, and she is always telling stories of southern gentlemen courting her. Then, the Misfit, whom she “knows” is of eminence, southern blood, shoots her and her family, despite her belief in southern hospitality. Grandma is a woman who believes in God but is diverted. The fact that she is killed on a trifling side-road, verify that she has strayed from the right path.
