The terrible events of 11 September 2001 and the first attack of such magnitude on U.S. mainland. The world before the attack and the world after it is two totally different worlds. This paper looks at the immediate and sustained reaction of the government and the after-effects of the attack. The purpose of pursuing this line of thought is to look at events, not from the eyes of the mainstream media but from the alternative press, people like Naom Chomsky and the Socialist Alternative. The need to look at the other side of the story is not necessary, because after 5 years of the War on terror —started as a reaction to the 9/11 attacks—the threat to the United States is even greater as the War on Terror has led more people in the world (not just the Muslims) to have nothing but contempt and hostility to what looks more and more like an imperial expansion.
